    Quincy Jones – “Ndeda” (1972)

quincy-jones_ndedaThis man needs no introduction, his creative legacy speaks for itself, and it puts him in the company of the select few who have changed popular music forever either directly or indirectly, or in his case, both. What is perhaps not so well known is the body of work he created as a jazz arranger, conductor, producer and performer in the 50′s and 60′s, which is what this excellent compilation album is all about.

Los Amigos Invisibles – Remixes and collaborations

los_amigos_invisiblesOne of my all-time favourite bands and also some of the friendliest people I have ever met are these gentlemen from Venezuela, better known as Los Amigos Invisibles. Here is a one hour long live concert of Jarle Bernhoft performing his solo debut album “Ceramik City Chronicles” backed by a very competent band of musicians at a venue in Oslo called Blå, enjoy! (Sorry about the wrong video aspect ratio, but this is how the original source is encoded).

    Groove Collection 12″ series

groove_collectionAs a mostly vinyl playing DJ, I like compilations because they save me a lot of time and weight, and when the track selection is good, it can get you out of a pinch when you’re playing for a tough crowd. The “Groove Collection” 12″ series has now passed 50 records in total, and to be honest, not all of them are great, but a select few are really good, listen for yourself and decide. Some of the tracks are pretty well known, some are not, but most of them work a treat on the dance floor.

    Newtone – “Newtone” (1996)

newtoneI don’t know why or how their only album got made, because the band appeared and then disappeared again almost immediately without any trace. “Newtone” was released just as the acid jazz wave faded out from the charts around the world, and I’m guessing that bad timing probably killed any chance it had to succeed. Originally, a friend of mine bought it on impulse sometime in the late 90’s because the cover looked, well, kinda funky, and surprisingly, the music actually matched his initial expectations and then some!
