I love lists, so I'm feeling this! Vincent's got my appreciating Prince's 3121 again. It wasn't a bad album. Personally, I liked his double album LOTUSFLOW3R/MPLSound best from the past decade. I've been curious about the Bootsy Christmas album too. I'm familiar with Amp Fiddler, so this has me that more curious about him. Too bad Mudbone's album is an import (a sad commentary on the Music Biz these days.) Special mention to The Coup with that controversial, yet prophetic, album cover for PARTY MUSIC. (Remember, this was shot BEFORE 9/11!) (I) don't understand the "funk clone " aspect of the Zoot Zilla album, but blame my ignorance for that. The "country funk" of Phil Jones....love it, though! (wink-wink)

Rickey mentions the long version of Funkship. I have never been able to find it. I have four "Play With Bootsy" CD's, all from different labels, because I was hoping that one of them would have the long version. They are all one-minute versions. Anyone know where to find the long version?

nice picks for the hiphop...love the paris and coup.

have you heard the likes of poets of rhythm, antibalas, tony allen, quantic soul orchestra, kokolo, brownout? those are some pretty heavy funk artists. they not only take in p-funk, but also fela, JB, dyke & the blazers, harvey averne, etc. seriously, give them a listen.

I need to check a couple of those out. Conspicuously absent, however, was D'Angelo's Voodoo -- was that one even close to the backup list?

Even if you use the criteria described in the article, it's still a pretty daunting task, so my hats off to Ricky for a job well done!
