    North Scientifik – “Building” (2010)

North Scientifik, a three man group hailing from Portland, Oregon, keeps the spirit of old school hip-hop alive on their debut album “Building”, freely inspired by their musical origins ranging from jazz to funk and fellow contemporaries like Pete Rock, The Beatnuts, early Common and others, while still bringing something fresh and new to the table.

The famous smooth R&B/Soul singer Teddy Pendergrass died in January this year (2010), only 59 years old. The Cookin Soul crew from Spain has crafted a beautiful tribute to the man and his music with their usual production flair, adding a modern sound throughout and rapping on select tracks that might help introduce his music to a whole new generation.

The Sound Stylistics – “Greasin’ The Wheels” (2009)

“Greasin’ The Wheels” is authentic instrumental old school hammond, guitar and horn driven high energy jazz/funk from some of the best British musicians playing today, including prominent members from the New Mastersounds and the James Taylor Quartet. The Sound Stylistics started out as a Bruton library project (their first release “Play Deep Funk” was not generally available for several years resulting in its cult status), but they are now a regular studio and touring band with a world class reputation for creating some of the best live funk jams you can hear these days.
