Down To The Bone – “The Main Ingredients”

Under the right circumstances, I’m a sucker for some smooth grooves as long as they are tight, funky and have plenty of soul. Down To The Bone has been providing their fans with just that for almost fifteen years, and their new album will be out in Europe / South Africa / Australia / New Zealand: June 27., USA / Canada: July 19. and Japan: July 20. Below you can preview their first single “Music Is The Key”:

Opolopo – “Voltage Controlled Feelings” (2010)

Originally from Zirc, Hungary, but now based in Stockholm, Sweden, Opolopo is a highly skilled producer, musician and composer who grew up listening to artists like Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones and Kraftwerk. Inspired by those and many other sources, he has created his own very unique blend of electronic funk, disco and soul. You can listen to a couple of sample tracks below, the first from his “Voltage Controlled Feelings” album, the second from a SoulParlor record titled “Evoluzion” (both released by the Tokyo Dawn Records label):

Opolopo – “Reversed” feat. Blacktop & Amalia:

SoulParlor – “Real” feat. Colonel Red (Opolopo Roller Skate Remix):

Trouble Funk – “Live From Washington D.C. Part II”

One of the pioneers of the Go-Go beat, Trouble Funk, released a double vinyl only album back in 1983 called “In Times of Trouble”. On the 2nd LP there are 3 live tracks, this is the first one on side D, a killer funk jam reduced to it’s most basic ingredient: pure rhythm:

Special EFX feat. Chieli Minucci – “Speak to Me” (DTTB Remix)

Scrounging around in my CD collection, I came across a couple of rare (and forgotten) compilations albums with some even rarer tracks, and this is the first one from Special EFX featuring the lead guitar player Chieli Minucci in the form of an extended Down To The Bone Remix:

    Ready Made – “Arabesques”

The second track I stumbled upon appears to be even rarer, it’s from a seemingly one-off French acid-jazz band called Ready Made that was clearly inspired by the likes of early 90s Ronny Jordan and George Benson:
