Special EFX feat. Chieli Minucci – “Speak to Me” (DTTB Remix)

Scrounging around in my CD collection, I came across a couple of rare (and forgotten) compilations albums with some even rarer tracks, and this is the first one from Special EFX featuring the lead guitar player Chieli Minucci in the form of an extended Down To The Bone Remix:

    Ready Made – “Arabesques”

The second track I stumbled upon appears to be even rarer, it’s from a seemingly one-off French acid-jazz band called Ready Made that was clearly inspired by the likes of early 90s Ronny Jordan and George Benson:

Los Amigos Invisibles – “Not So Commercial”

The invisible friends from Venezuela are back with a mini-album of tasty leftovers from their previous release “Commercial”, this one is funnily enough called “Not So Commercial” (out February 8.). To be honest, this is not their absolute best stuff, but as always there are some really sexy tracks to be found including the tribute song “Corduroy” that really nails the sound of the Acid Jazz pioneers from back in the day. You can listen to a complete preview at the Nacional Records website.

Ronny Jordan – “The Quiet Revolution” (1993)

After almost twenty years, this vintage acid-jazz album that mixes hip-hop, jazz, instrumental and vocal tracks, still manages to sound fresh thanks to its very tight production and excellent guitar melodies played with superb skill by the man himself, just have a listen to one of the standout tracks called “In Full Swing” (sorry about the lo-fi sound):

Jamiroquai – “Don’t Stop The Feeling”

Instead of writing a mostly negative review about “Rock Dust Light Star” (we don’t do that here), I’ll let this live video from 1995 express where I hoped Jamiroquai would be heading on their latest record:

Jamiroquai – “Rock Dust Light Star”

So far, the two tracks that have been revealed from the new Jamiroquai album (out November 1.), “White Knuckle Ride” (video) and “Blue Skies” (video) show no signs of them returning to their funk, soul and acid jazz roots that many of their fans (including me) had hoped they would do since their departure or escape? from Sony/Columbia. With over 10 tracks still to be heard, there might be room for more adventurous material, the two songs mentioned above being typical radio-friendly single fodder.

    Incognito – “Transatlantic RPM”

The new 30th anniversary album from Incognito (“Transatlantic RPM”) will be released worldwide on July 27. Featuring such artists as Chaka Khan, the legendary Leon Ware, Al McKay of Earth Wind & Fire and the former bass player/song writer in Jamiroquai, Stuart Zender, hopefully it will be an amazing release!

Corduroy Industries – “Return to Motor City” samples

Unfortunately, the website (wohomusic.net) that hosted the 6 preview tracks from the as of yet unreleased debut album from the reformed band, has just recently removed them all from their server. A few of the songs can still be previewed on the following Corduroy Industries MySpace page. There is still no more news regarding if or when this record will be made available to the public…

The legendary acid jazz band formerly known as only Corduroy, has just finished recording a new album of mainly 80′s Motown covers after a 10+ year long break from the music scene.
